This month, I talked with Jaechelle Blue, one of the younger members of our Danzcokids youth performance group. Jaechelle was recently featured as Santa Claus in SNOW! at the Grand Theater, and you can see her in the Danzcokids next performance on April 17th right in our studios!
Lauren: What kinds of dance have you done in the past?
Jaechelle: I've mostly done Jazz, and trained with Miss Jill and Miss Heather. I also danced jazz in "Footloose".
L: What is your favorite part of dance class and rehearsal?
J: Having fun and just being able to let my imagination fly!
L: Do you think you'll continue with performing as you get older?
J: Definitely. I'd love to be on Broadway!
L: What is different about performing, instead of practicing in the studio?
J: Onstage, we are letting other people know how much our teachers have taught us.
L: I heard that you are going to start to take voice lessons. What are your favorite songs to sing and dance to?
J: I love to sing "No One" by Alicia Keys and I love to dance to “When I Look at You” by Miley Cyrus.
L: If you had a friend who wanted to join Danzcokids, but they were nervous, what would you tell them?
J: I would say that it's fun, you'll be okay, and you'll make friends quickly.
This month, we will learn about Cynthia Gregory, one of the great American ballerinas. She began dancing at the age of 3, and by age 7, appeared on the cover of Dance Magazine. Her most famous role was as Odette/Odile in Swan Lake with the American Ballet Theater. She is now the Chairman of “Career Transitions for Dancers”, a group that helps find new career paths for dancers who have to retire due to injuries. You can see Ms. Gregory’s work right at your own computer! Check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asR0aeDVfRI and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=884nZaqACWE&feature=fvw
If you have checked out our new website (www.dancecoperformingarts.com), you must have noticed how wonderful it is! It was designed by one of our very talented Dance Co. moms, Kelly Royce. Her daughter Laura takes Miss Heather's On My Own class on Saturdays. Kelly has a B.S. degree in Math, and has worked as a technical writer for the federal government in Maryland and financial organizations in Pittsburgh for over 8 years. In addition to being a stay at home mom, Kelly is currently taking web publishing classes.
